coriander

The dried seed, not the leaf: warm, slightly citrusy, faintly soapy at the edges. Coriander smells closer to orange peel rolled in pepper than to fresh cilantro. A quiet workhorse in classic colognes and aromatic fougères, adding lift without sweetness. Common in Acqua di Parma-style citrus aromatics. Sits between top and heart, giving the opening a dry, slightly buzzy texture. Pairs well with bergamot, cardamom, and lavender.
