cypress

Dry, resinous, and slightly smoky: the smell of a Tuscan hillside in August. Cypress is greener than cedar and less sharp than pine, with a clean coniferous edge that reads more grown-up than Christmas tree. Often used to give woody fragrances structure without making them feel heavy. Pairs well with vetiver, juniper, and citrus. A long-lasting base note that anchors many men's fougères and modern unisex woods.

Also known as: cypress oil, mediterranean cypress, italian cypress
