narcissus

A dark, hay-like floral with a strange animal undercurrent: imagine a damp meadow at dusk with crushed green stems underfoot. Less pretty than jasmine, more grown-up than violet. Narcissus absolute is one of the more polarizing florals: indolic, slightly leathery, almost dirty. Used sparingly in chypres and vintage-style florals. Lasts well into the heart, lending a melancholy, lived-in quality.
