oakmoss

Damp, earthy, and slightly leathery: the smell of a shaded forest floor after rain. Oakmoss is the green-black soul of every classic chypre, from Mitsouko to vintage Aromatics Elixir. Restricted by IFRA in recent decades, so modern versions are heavily reformulated or replaced by synthetic substitutes like Evernyl. Adds a moody, ancient depth to a base. Long-lasting and slightly inky. Pairs naturally with bergamot, labdanum, and patchouli.
