geranium

Smells like rose crossed with crushed mint leaves: green, slightly metallic, faintly lemony. Geranium gives a fragrance backbone without the sweetness of true rose, which is why it's a staple in men's colognes and fougères. Often used as a "rose stand-in" that reads more grown-up and less feminine. Pairs cleanly with lavender, vetiver, and patchouli. Sits in the heart and holds for a few hours.

Also known as: rose geranium, pelargonium, geranium bourbon
